Nikki: Any projects you would like to promote or share that you have coming up in 2013?

Jasmyn: This year I will be producing my work in Montreal as part of the Montreal Fringe Festival. I am really excited about this!!!

2 Years of T.D.O.T. Feature #66 Derick Robinson

21 Jan

January 24th 2013 marks 2 years of T.D.O.T and 93 Dancer/Choreographer Features to date. Let’s look back at some of our past features and see what they’ve been up to. We caught up with Derick Robinson he was first featured on May 28th 2012 .

Nikki: Name 1 of your biggest accomplishments for 2012?

Derick: I would say my biggest accomplishment for 2012 would be that I have the amazing pleasure of choreographing for the one and only Trish. It has been such a great experience choreographing, dancing and building a relationship with such a brilliant and talented person. I look forward to what we have coming up in 2013.

Nikki: Any projects you would like to promote or share that you have coming up in 2013?

Derick: I now teach a weekly “Contemporary/Hip-Hop” drop-in class every Thursday from 7pm – 8:30pm at City Dance Corps.

Nikki: What is the biggest lesson you learned as a Dancer/Choreographer this past year?

Derick: The best lesson that I have learned this passed year would be that I can’t do it all at once. As an up coming dancer/choreographer in this city I am egger to do everything that I can as quick as I can, but that’s when I get over loaded and then eventually stressed out. It’s ok to say no every once in a while. I have realized that I patience is the key to positive growth. I need to take my time and really focus on what will benefit me with my career and my life.

2 years of T.D.O.T. Feature #69 Lineen Doung

12 Jan

January 24th 2013 marks 2 years of T.D.O.T. Were taking a look back at some of our past features and what they’ve been up to. We caught up with Lineen Doung he was first featured on May 7th 2012.

LINEEN DOUNG

Nikki Name 1 of your biggest accomplishments for 2012?

Lineen: There has been three that are incomparable to what is my biggest accomplishment.

– Smile 4 the cause a charity dance showcase

– crewSPECT which is a CREW VS CREW dance battle that allows the crews to respect eachothers craft and pushing eachother to the fullest

– Right 1 Sentinels dance program – which embodies foundation of hip hop and technique and allowing the dancers enrolled to learn the right way from the right people.  “Keeping the foundation alive” – MOTTO

Nikki: Any projects you would like to promote or share that you have coming up in 2013?

Lineen: Coming up in 2013 would be new advancements in my three events (Right 1, crewSPECT, and Smile 4 The Cause).  Also, I will be touring the states and parts of Canada for a workshop tour! It’s going to be fun, lots of showcases around the NORTH AMERICAN continent that I will be looking for dancers for as well.

Nikki: What is the biggest lesson you learned as a Dancer/Choreographer this past year?

Lineen: The biggest thing I have learned as a dancer/choreographer is that Pictures and Moments are the number one best thing to have whether you are freestyling or choreographing.  On stage or in the studio in class, moments that can be captured by a camera are the best moments to see when someone is dancing!

January 24th 2013 marks 2 years and 93 Dancer/Choreographer features. It has been a gratifying  journey to give Toronto Dancers and Choreographers a platform to be recognized. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO I’ve decided to enter a Dance Blog contest for TOP Dance Blog run by Nichelle Strzepek Founder and Editor of The Dance Advantage.  When I started this blog I didn’t necessarily plan for all these incredible things to happen. For the past 2 years my mission has been to Recognize, Showcase and Nurture The Dancers and Choreographers of Toronto. This blog has opened the door to incredible opportunities I could never have imagined not only for myself but for many Dancers in the city. I want to continue to create more opportunities and shine a light on the Toronto and Canadian Dance community. Help T.D.O.T. be the Top Dance Blog of 2013. I can’t thank you enough for supporting my vision……All I need you to do is comment on this post by Jan 20th and if I make it to the second round I will ask you again to vote! Tell me what you think of the blog. If you’re a past feature let me know if it has benefited you in anyway. 2 years of T.D.O.T. Feature #86 Latoya Webley

3 Jan

January 24th 2013 marks 2 years of T.D.O.T. Were taking a look back at some of our past features and what they’ve been up to. We caught up with Latoya Webley she was first featured on Sept 24th 2011.

Nikki: Name one of your biggest accomplishments for 2012?

Latoya: One of my biggest accomplishments of this year was performing on the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards w/ Rihanna. I’ve always wanted to perform on the MTV Awards and to do it w/ one of america’s top female artist was such an amazing experience. It was a great production and I was so happy to be apart of it.

Nikki: What is one of the biggest lessons you’ve learned as a Dancer this past year?

Latoya: The biggest lesson I’ve learned as a dancer throughout the years is that there is no blueprint to make it as a successful dance. Each dancer has their own path and w/ God all things are possible.
